Koutoupas, Panka Headline EPT Deauville

Sotirios Koutoupas outlasts Eugene Katchalov while Dominik Panka continues to roll early in 2014 as EPT Deauville comes to an end on Saturday…

GREECE LIGHTNING

Sotirios Koutoupas GPIHours after one amateur, Anthony Merulla won the WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open, another amateur, Sotirios Koutoupas (GPI#893) picked up the big win in the EPT Deauville Main Event, surviving the charge from Team PokerStars Pro Eugene Katchalov (GPI#121), who was seeking the final win to allow him to enter the Triple Crown Club.

Koutoupas, who helps run the family business back in his homeland, could soon be added to the list of best part-time poker players in the world as this wasn’t his first ever deep run on the European Poker Tour. Back in 2012, Koutoupas finished second to Ramzi Jelassi (GPI#391) at EPT Prague. He came back to Prague in December and finished 25th. It sure looks like we haven’t heard the last of the Greek champ.

PANKA WINS AGAIN ON THE EPT

Dominik Panka PCAJust a few short weeks after winning the PCA 2014 Main Event in the Bahamas, Dominik Panka (GPI#976) is back is right back on top of the podium after winning the High Roller event earlier on Saturday in Deauville.

Don’t be surprised to see Panka rise up the GPI European Poker Tour Player of the Year and 2014 GPI Player of the Year races when the next set of rankings become available.
