O’Dwyer’s UKIPT Upswing, WPT Headed for Cyprus

O’Dwyer’s Luck of the Irish

Steve O’Dwyer took another step closer to claiming another poker title yesterday after he maintained his lead in UKIPT Galway’s Irish Championship.

Having started the day with the chip lead, the American pro managed to wield his stack without remorse and finish the second day with 528,500 chips.

That haul was enough to put him ahead of the day’s other six survivors which included: Marc MacDonnell (184,100), Max Silver (253,800), Thomas Hall (177,600), Peter Murphy (42,000), Ian Gascoigne (83,000), and Trevor Dinneen (35,100).

Today’s final session began earlier and at the time of writing O’Dwyer’s stack had take a tumble but he was still leading race for the €39,450 top prize.

WPT Cyprus Bound

PartyPoker has just announced details of its Big Game which will form part of the forthcoming WPT Cyprus Merit Classic.

Set to kick off on August 12, the WPT festival will feature a number of events, including a $10,000 High Roller and the $1 million guaranteed $4,400 Main Event, but for cash game fans the main focus will be the $50/$100 cash game.

Set to welcome the likes of Sam Trickett, Daniel Cates and the Mizrachi family (Michael, Robert, Eric and Donny), the game will follow a similar premise to previous Big Games with players being voted off if the audience deem them too boring.

Presiding over the action when the game kicks off on August 15 will be Jesse May and interested railbirds will be able to watch the action via a live stream on PartyPoker’s website.

Overall WPT Cyprus will feature 35 tournaments in addition to the cash game and guarantee player a total prizepool of at least $3 million.

Away from the poker table the likes of reigning champion Marvin Rettenmaier will be able to enjoy a number of extracurricular activities, including a beach party featuring world-famous DJ Eric Cubeechee.
