GPI300: Sands Back in Top 10, JesseYagz Makes a Move, Laak Out

After last week’s madness, this is a fairly quiet week inside the GPI300:

VIEW FROM THE TOP

David Sands GPIThe Mad One, Marvin Rettenmaier (GPI#1, -) spends his second week in a row atop the GPI300 standings. The German star was actually able to add to his lead by winning the Eurasian Poker Tour Kiev Main Event over the weekend.

After spending a week outside the Top 10, David “Doc” Sands (GPI#8, +3) returns to his rightful place amongst poker’s elite. Sands’ (pictured, right) Festa Al Lago Main Event victory last week allowed him to pickup the necessary points to return to the top.

Sands’ return to the top means that Paul Volpe (GPI#11, -1) – who actually took Sands’ place inside the Top 10 last week – drops down a spot to 11 this week. We’ll have to wait and see if Volpe’s score at the WPT Borgata Poker Open will be enough to get him back into the Top 10.

Jesse Yaginuma GPIA good 2013 continues for Jesse Yaginuma (GPI#230, +57) who moved up over 50 spots in the standings this week. Yaginuma (pictured, right), who final tabled the WPT L.A. Poker Classic to start the season, finished second to Matt Salsberg in a prelim event at the Borgata Poker Open over the weekend.

American Michael Gagliano (GPI#226, +49), who also cashed in that same prelim event as Yaginuma and Salsberg, also enjoyed a big jump in the standings this week.

DOWN THE LADDER

Kent Lundmark GPIUKIPT Galway High Roller Champion Sergio Aido Espina (GPI#281, -75) lost the most ground inside the 300 this week. Espina’s victories at WPT National Barcelona and at UKIPT London continue to lose value in the standings, he’ll need another important score soon in order to right the ship.

Former EPT Barcelona Champion Kent Lundmark (GPI#248, -60) (pictured, right), Dutch star Paul Berende (GPI#165, -38) and WSOP bracelet winner David “ODB” Baker (GPI#160, -29) also suffered big setbacks this past week.

IN-N-OUT

Sam Chartier GPICanadian pro Samuel Chartier (GPI#263, +99) (pictured, right) and former WSOP November Niner John Dolan (GPI#277, +30) highlight the list of five players who move up into the GPI300 this week.

On the flip-side, Phil Laak’s (GPI#320, -22) return to the GPI300 will have been a short one. Laak re-entered the 300 for the first time in two years last week, sadly, he’s back on the the outside, looking in.
