Schoreck Wins MSPT, Musterel Sues Borgata, WSOP to Open Poker Room

Schoreck Wins MSPT Baton Rouge

The latest stop for the Mid-States Poker Tour was in Louisiana at the Belle of Baton Rouge. The $1,110 Main Event drew 118 entries and a $118K prize pool.

Day 2 brought 36 players back to the tables from the two starting flights but players fell fast. With only 12 spots to be paid, the bubble lasted quite some time before Daniel Holmes eliminated Seville Hale in 13th place. Justin Truesdell and David Chocheles followed.

The final 10 players were then seated together with Tom Annonson as the massive chip leader. Erica Sumner was the first to exit the table, and Annonson ended up taking fifth place. Shawn Schoreck took the lead into heads-up play against Kuo Vang, but the latter quickly doubled through to jump ahead. But Schoreck doubled several times, regained the lead, and took that to the winner’s circle.

1st place: Shawn Schoreck ($34,105)

2nd place: Kuo Vang ($21,032)

3rd place: Daniel Holmes ($15,006)

4th place: Will Souther ($10,914)

5th place: Tom Annonson ($8,072)

6th place: Robbie Matthews ($6,139)

7th place: Mihail Karasoulis ($4,661)

8th place: Allen Kessler ($3,638)

9th place: Michael Benton ($2,956)

Borgata Player Sues Casino for Suspended Tournament

When the first event of the January Borgata Winter Poker Open thinned the field down to 27 players, officials suspended the tournament due to the discovery of counterfeit chips. The Borgata, along with the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, launched an investigation that later led to the arrest of Christian Lusardi. He was arrested after flushing fake tournament chips down the toilet, causing a flood at the hotel.

More than a month later, the tournament remains suspended, and no money has been paid to the top 27 players as the investigation is ongoing. One player from the tournament, Jacob Musterel, decided to file a class action lawsuit against the Borgata. He alleges fraud and negligence in the hosting of the tournament, and he is suing for refunds of buy-ins and entry fees for all players that competed in the event, as well as damages to reimburse them for travel and other expenses related to the tournament.
