Shorr Claims Final PCA Title; Belgian Wins GUKPT Champions Event
Shannon Shorr Closes PCA 2013
While Vanessa Selbst’s celebrations began in earnest, Shannon Shorr was busy taking down the final event of this year’s PokerStars Caribbean Adventure.
The American grinder was one of a number of stars taking part in the $10,000 turbo six-max event.
Indeed, alongside Shorr were some other well respected online grinders, such as Dani Stern, Mickey Petersen and Dan Kelly, all looking to show off their skills in the online player-friendly format.
With satellite qualifiers looking “extremely uncomfortable” according to Stern, the pros ripped through the field and took the event to a final table relatively quickly.
Stern and Shorr were amongst the final four players in Event 40 and, after some consideration of the stacks, a deal was struck which gave each competitor a guaranteed $160,000.
With a healthy sum locked up, Stern and Shorr dispatched with their opponents and decided to flip for the title.
A less than powerful [8s] [4s] was enough for Shorr to best Stern and claim yet another live tournament title.
Belgian Becomes GUKPT Champion of Champions
The GUKPT’s Champion of Champions tournament took place over the weekend inside Luton’s G Casino.
Welcoming back the season’s best performers, a total of 94 runners lined up at the start of the event for a shot at the £22,630 top prize.
Amongst those competing for the title were familiar faces such as James Akenhead, Jeff Kimber and recent WPT Dublin winner, Simon Deadman.
Indeed, it was Deadman who took control of the event early when he finished Day 1 second in chips.
A confident performance on Day 2 saw Deadman progress past the majority of the field and face Belgian estate agent Serge Van Landegham heads-up.
Despite being the pre-finale favourite, Deadman wasn’t able to overcome the European amateur and finally hit the rail in second place leaving Landegham to claim the Champion of Champions title.

1st | Serge Van Landegham | £22,630 |
2nd | Simon Deadman | £16,060 |
3rd | Les Fenton | £10,220 |

Tax Man Watching Spanish Poker Players
Spanish poker players are rumoured to be the subject of an investigation by the country’s tax authorities.
According to Tax-news.com, investigators are using tournament databases (such as the Global Poker Index) to find out which players are winning money.
These earnings are then being cross-referenced with tax returns to ascertain the true state of a player’s finances.
It’s not be revealed whether any players have been personally investigated; however, it’s certainly a sign that the newly regulated Spanish market is looking to keep a close eye on its finances.
