Vienna’s Bumper Field, Negreanu on One Drop, Cates vs. Blom

Eureka Vienna Breaks a Record

The ongoing Eureka Poker Tour in Vienna broke all previous records yesterday as 1,432 players to took to the felt inside the Hofburg Palace.

While many thought the previous record of 1,315 players was an almost insurmountable target, the latest leg has seen that total exceeded by more than 100 players.

On a day of big numbers, it was also one of big pots for Mateusz Warowiec as he was able to clinch the top spot at the close of the session.

The Polish PokerStars qualifier managed to edge ahead of the field at the tail end of the day with a 224,800 chip haul.

Following close behind Warowiec and putting themselves in a good position ahead of Day 2 was the likes of Pawel Czartoryski, Bertrand Grospellier, Maxim Lykov and Mickey Petersen.

Today’s session welcomed back 399 survivors and at the time of writing just 215 were left in contention with the bubble just a few eliminations away.

Negreanu’s One Drop Plans

Daniel Negreanu is currently working on securing the cash to play the $1 million WSOP One Drop event according to a recent tweet. Following the announcement of the first 23 players registered for the super high roller, Daniel has explained that he’s keen to play the tournament but he need to lock up some extra money before he officially puts his name down.

So far Daniel is one of the only non-preregistered players to come out and say he’s going to play, leading many to speculate on other notable absentees such as Phil Hellmuth.

Although many expect Hellmuth to be amongst the runners when things get underway, he is yet to publicly confirm his intention to play.

High Stakes Stars in Debt Dispute

Daniel Cates and Viktor Blom look to be at loggerheads over a $100,000 debt. According to a recent disagreement in the chat box online, Blom owes Cates a substantial amount of money.

Following up the initial story, Card Player’s Brian Pempus spoke to Cates earlier this week to get his take on this and in addition to confirming Blom owes the money he said the repayments are “taking some time” and the situation is starting to get “frustrating”.

The main source of the information came from this exchange:

Jungleman12: I can’t describe how annoying it is to lose to you Viktor

Isildur1: 2 pair

Isildur1: biatch

Jungleman12: scum

Isildur1: too easy

Isildur1: eat this

Isildur1: ty

Isildur1: you suck

Isildur1: easy money

Isildur1: Gus on the other hand

Jungleman12: pay your debt scumbag

Cates went on to say in his interview that the two have since made up, but if the debt goes unpaid we could see a grudge match between the two high stakes pros take place in the near future.
