WSOP Main Event: Keep An Eye On Jouhkimainen

If you didn’t know the name Joni Jouhkimainen (GPI#40) before his performance at EPT Barcelona last August, well he made sure you would always remember him after his performance at one of the most entertaining EPT Final Tables of Season 9 where he battled, amongst others, fellow countryman Ilari “Ziigumund” Sahamies (GPI#1172). He provided us with amazing theatre during the live stream playing some of the best poker even seen on the PokerStars TV airwaves. He ended up making a few missteps at the end, finishing third.
Jouhkimainen didn’t sit on his laurels after that big score either. In the 11 months since his breakout on the European Poker Tour, Jouhkimainen has amassed a total of (12) Top 10 finishes on the live tournament circuit – most notably finishing second in the 10K PLO Championship at EPT Deauville and a sixth place finish in the EPT Berlin High Rollers Event.
The young Finnish pro has enjoyed a good start to the summer as well. After final tabling the 3K PLO event at the World Series of Poker for 37K USD, Jouhkimainen then proceeded to final table in the Wynn Summer Classic, adding another 31K USD to his totals. Back at the WSOP, a Top 100 finish in a 2,500 NLH event soon followed. He has already collected over 375K USD in winnings this season on the live circuit.
Although it’s still very early into Day 1A at the WSOP, Jouhkimainen has almost doubled his starting stack already, hoping this is a sign of great things to come.
Adding Jouhkimainen to your FPM WSOP Main Event team will require you to take on an important “salary” on your total cap. At a current FPM Market Price north of 320,000, you will need to be able to make a few more frugal transactions in order to fit him in … but he may very well be worth the extra effort!
