Dutch Boyd Silences his Critics, UK’s Super Casino Aspirations
Boyd Bags his Third Bracelet
Dutch Boyd may not have had the greatest of times recently but thanks to a steely determination and some help from the poker gods he managed to reverse his fortunes earlier today.
Despite being forced one of his old poker bracelets and pen a book about his time in the game in order to rebuild his bankroll (as well as payoff his lawsuit from 2+2), Boyd played with the confidence of a world beater in the final stages of Event #33.
Indeed, after lining up alongside 1,687 players in the $1,000 No limit Hold’em, Boyd was able to come out on top and claim the $288,744 top prize after beating Steven Norden heads-up.
Not only did his latest win earn him a timely bankroll boost but it gave him his third WSOP title.
More Super Casinos Talks for the UK
The UK could be getting a new super casino in the future and members of parliament are currently eyeing up Blackpool as a possible location.
Back in 2006 the British government pledged to create eight “super casinos” across the UK but following the demise of Tony Blair and the rise of Gordon Brown the original plans were scrapped.
Although the country now has two impressive casinos in London and Milton Keynes, Blackpool could be the next in line for a Vegas-style gambling destination if Lord McNally has anything to do with it.
The House of Lords representative recently addressed his peers and stated that continued economic decline in Blackpool is becoming a major concern and that “the casino option should be revisited to revitalize the economy“.
Whether or not the address will filter through to the Houses of Parliament remains to be seen but with a growing interest in gambling revenue by money local governments it could mean a proliferation of new casinos across the UK in the coming years.
