GPI300: High Roller win sees Busquet storm back in

Olivier Busquet is back in the Top 10 …

VIEW FROM THE TOP

Dan Smith GPIDan Smith (GPI#1, -) continues to stand tall at the top of the GPI World Poker Rankings despite losing a few points in the standings. Smith and current World #2 Ole Schemion (GPI#2, -) remain the only two players in the 4,000 point range. Meanwhile, no changes amongst the rest of the Top 5 as Daniel Negreanu (GPI#3, -), Jason Mercier (GPI#4, -) and Scott Seiver (GPI#5, -) once again hold on to their current rankings.

Olivier Busquet’s (GPI#6, +5) on-again, off-again relationship with the Top 10 is on again … and this time, it might be permanent, or at least for the forceable future. Busquet collected his 2nd win and 14th cash this year, winning the UKIPT High Roller over the weekend at EPT London. The £107,300 win comes two months after the biggest win of his career in the EPT Barcelona Super High Roller, where he took home over $1.1 for the W.

Busquet’s re-entry in the Top 10 means that Vanessa Selbst (GPI#11, -1) drops out.

SWIMMING UPSTREAM

By finishing 8th in the UKIPT Main Event at EPT London over the weekend, Danish pro Rasmus Agerskov Larsen (GPI#195, +56) is the biggest mover this week. That result allows him some breathing room from the 300 cut-off.

PCA Champion Dominik Panka (GPI#209, +40), Kitty Kuo (GPI#220, +37) and former World #7 Igor Kurganov (GPI#149, +36) are three other notables who moved up the ranks this week.

DOWN THE LADDER

WPT Seminole Hard Rock Showdown final table participant Jacob Bazeley (GPI#279, -81) takes the biggest hit this week amongst the Top 300. Bazeley’s WPT score, which entered a new aging period this week, dropped 81 spots to a season-low #279 this week. He is in danger of dropping out of the Top 300 for the first time in over 16 months.

Giacomo Fundaro (GPI#251, -69), Sergio Aido (GPI#290, -67), Jeff Gross (GPI#213, -53) and Tom Hall (GPI#225, -36) are a few other players who dropped in this week’s rankings.

IN-N-OUT

Two of the game’s biggest names – German high roller Fabian Quoss (GPI#292) and Andrey Pateychuk (GPI#299) – didn’t waste much time in getting back into the Top 300. Each player exited the list last week but found a way to quickly get back in, although in both cases, they are still in very dangerous territory.

A bunch of major event Champions see themselves on the outside, looking in this week as Kent Lundmark (GPI#303), James Calderaro (GPI#305), Zimnan Ziyard (GPI#322), Barny Boatman (GPI#324), Rocco Palumbo (GPI#333) and Mark Radoja (GPI#376) drop out of the GPI300 this week.

ON THE BUBBLE

American Mark Dube (GPI#301) is on the verge of joining the GPI300 for the very first time in his career. After a solid first year on tour in 2013, Dube has enjoyed a fantastic season so far in 2014 cashing in 20 events including a victory in the 5K event at the Venetian Deepstack Extravaganza III this summer in Las Vegas. Another push should do it!
