Borgata Sues Ivey over Baccarat Winnings

The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City filed lawsuit against Phil Ivey for $9.626 million that the poker pro won in baccarat. The four winning sessions took place in 2012, and the casino alleges that Ivey used “edge sorting,” the same process Crockfords names in another lawsuit pending against Ivey for the same type of charges.

According to PokerNews, the complaint alleges breach of contract, racketeering, fraud, conversion, unjust enrichment, and civil conspiracy. Ivey’s gambling partner, Cheng Yin Sun, is also named in the case, along with Gemaco, the manufacturer of the cards used.

Ivey was able to negotiate his own terms in order to play at Borgata, including wiring $1 million to the casino, betting no more than $50K per hand, a private pit and dealer who spoke Mandarin Chinese, one guest, and his own Gemaco cards. According to the complaint, Ivey claimed superstition was behind his requirements, but the document states that was a misrepresentation of motive, intention, and purpose.
