WSOP Main Event Rumbles On, WPT Netherlands Announced

Stansifer Leads Day 2 of the Main Event

Day 2A/B of this year’s WSOP Main Event welcomed back almost 2,000 players last night but in an all too predictable turn of events, only 700 of those would find a way through the session.

After combing the survivors from Day 1A and Day 1B, the likes of Martin Jacobson, Erik Seidel, Matt Affleck and Antonio Esfandiari were all amongst the biggest stacks in the room.

However, as the day progressed only three of the four aforementioned players would survive as Affleck found himself unable to emulate the deep run he enjoyed in 2010.

While some of the world’s best players, including the defending champion Ryan Riess, made their way through the session, it was unknown grinder Tim Stansifer who dominated the day.

The recreational grinder raked in 481,500 chips to lead the movement into Day 3 ahead of Tom Cannuli (407,800), Manir Shahin (361,900) and Martin Jacobson (342,700) who managed to reproduce the form he showed on Day 1A.

Aside from another round of betting taking place on Day 2A/B, the organisers were able to define this year’s final prizepool and inform players that 693 survivors would make at $18,406.

Day 2C will get underway tomorrow when the likes of Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu will try their best to make it through to Day 3.

The World Poker Tour Heads to Holland

The WPT will hold its first ever event in the Netherlands later this year following the announcement of the WPT National Valkenburg.

Despite producing some of the best poker players in the world, the WPT has yet to host an event in the land of tulips and windmills but all that will change on October 1st.

Running over the course of five days, the latest National event will feature a €500+€50 Main Event as well as a €1,350+€150 High Roller.

Playing host to the first ever WPT in the Netherlands will be Holland Casino and commenting on the festival, the Casino’s Director, Noel Leise, said:

I am thrilled to announce this venture with World Poker Tour which is set to offer our players something they haven’t experienced before in Holland.”

Adding to this, the WPT’s head honcho, Adam Pliska, told the media:

We are delighted to be expanding the World Poker Tour global footprint by travelling to Holland for our first WPT in the country. This is a very exciting partnership for us of which we hope will include many events in the future.”
