2014 GPI PoY: Alex Bilokur leaves WSOP with the lead

Alex Bilokur takes the GPI PoY lead into the final months of the 2014 poker season…

BILOKUR HOLDS SLIM LEAD

Four cashes at the World Series of Poker, including his very first gold bracelet, allowed Alex Bilokur (GPI#7) to pass Keven Stammen (GPI#21) earlier this summer. Bilokur hasn’t looked back since and enters the post-WSOP season with a 70-point lead on Stamment, the defending WPT World Champion.

The news just keeps on getting better for Bilokur as the European Poker Tour’s 11th season is set to kickoff in a few weeks. Bilokur has collected the bulk of his points on the EPT so far in 2014. With several events being presented at the EPT Barcelona Festival, he may be in line for more scores. Bilokur finished second to Laurent Polito in the High Roller event at EPT Barcelona in 2012.

It’s important to note that Bilokur has reached his 13-score cap, he actually has 14 cashes so far this season. This means that he will need to earn a minimum of 24 points in an event in order to improve his current score.

Here is a look at Bilokur’s 2014 PoY results:

2012 GPI PoY DAN SMITH TRENDING

Not only is 2012 GPI Player of the Year Dan Smith (GPI#1) involved in a heated battle with 2013 GPI Player of the Year Ole Schemion (GPI#2), he is also making waves in the 2014 GPI PoY race.

Smith’s successes this summer haven’t gone unnoticed and he has moved up 61 spots in the PoY race currently sitting in third position, just over 100 points off of first place. The only advantage that Smith holds on Bilokur and Stammen is that he only has 10 scores to date this season, meaning that he still have three cashes in order to add points before meeting his 13-score quota for the year. Like the others, he would still be able to add extra points as long as they would be higher than his 13th-best score to date.

It would be wrong to forget about Schemion. The German sensation was shutout at the WSOP but did win a 100K buy-in tournament at the Aria before making his way back to Europe. Schemion enters the final stretch of the season ranked #5 in the PoY race and is just a few scores away from taking over this year’s race.
