GPI300: Duhamel Back in Top 10, Engel Continues Rise

A former WSOP World Champion makes his way back into the Top 10 while a circuit grinder continues his ascension inside the 300:

VIEW FROM THE TOP

Jonathan Duhamel GPIIt was a relatively quiet week atop the Top 10 this week as the first seven players remained in exactly the same position they were in last week, led by world #1 Daniel Negreanu (GPI#1, -), who spends his third straight week at the top.

One man who did shakeup the standings this week is 2010 WSOP World Champion Jonathan Duhamel (GPI#9, +3). Duhamel, who had been flirting with the Top 10 for a few weeks, makes a return to the top for the first time since July 2012. David Sands (GPI#8, +2) also moved up this week, picking up two spots to #8.

Noah Schwartz’s (GPI#13, -4) recent on-again off-again relationship with the Top 10 is off again. The recent WSOPE bracelet winner drops to 13 this week just a few weeks after peaking at a career best #6.

Ari Engel GPIKiryl Radzivonau (GPI#197, +97) makes the biggest move in the standings this week. The Belarusian moves up almost 100 spots into the Top 200.

But it’s circuit grinder Ari Engel (GPI#165, +57) who grabs the most headlines this week. Engel won his fourth tournament of the year earlier this week at Heartland Poker Tour Missouri. The win was Engel’s 37th cash of the season, a very impressive feat.

DOWN THE LADDER

Jonathan Karamalikis GPIFan favourite Jonathan Karamalikis (GPI#225, -87) takes the biggest tumble down the ranks this week. The man, known as xMonsterxDongx on the virtual felt, has spent most of the year inside the Top 200 – including a four-week stay inside the 100 – but moves back to #225 this week.

Macau Poker Cup Red Dragon Event winner Tom Alner (GPI#250, -71) also drops this week. Alner, who peaked at his career-high #130 rank after his win in August, has spent the last few weeks moving up and down the ladder and now finds himself ranked 250th.

IN-N-OUT

Danyel Boyaciyan GPIA recent fourth place finish at the kickoff event to the Master Classics of Poker has allowed Dutch pro Danyel “David” Boyacian (GPI#244, -82) to make his return to the GPI300. Boyacian, who has finished second and third at EPT Prague the past two years, has spent most his recent time living dangerously, falling in and out of the GPI300 for a while now … hopefully this fourth place finish will give him a little breathing room.

The GPI300 can be oh so cruel from time to time. One week after cracking the 300 for the first time of his career, UK pro Jack Salter (GPI#301, -2) drops to #301 and loses his status inside the 300 by one spot! The #300 spot is held by Tommy Vedes Danger Zone alum Jonathan Turner (GPI#305, +5) this week.
