A Final Look at WPT LAPC

FPM logoWhat was deemed as the Paul vs. Toby story ended up being a tale of Paul vs. Paul in the end, with Paul Klann (GPI#9854) earning the biggest payday of his poker career, winning the L.A. Poker Classic and earning membership into the World Poker Tour Champions Club.

The fourty-something Canadian had three career cashes on the live tournament circuit prior to his +1M score at the Commerce Casino.  His biggest score to date was a 16th place finish good for 16K USD in the Main Event at the Venetian Deep Stack Extravaganza in July of 2010.  He had most recently earned a Top 10 finish at the Heartland Poker Tour Nevada event in Las Vegas last April.  Phil Collins defeated Matt Marafioti heads-up in that event.

The buzz heading into final table play was certainly around poker pros Paul Volpe (GPI#166) and Toby Lewis (GPI#38), but with Lewis so short in chips, it was unfair to actually believe that, unless he could double-up very early, Lewis would be a contender on Thursday in L.A.

While he started the day as the chip leader, Volpe staged an impressive comeback to even get to heads-up play.  Volpe lost his lead in a big pot play versus Danny Fuhs early but was able to double-up a few times to claw his way back into contention.

WPT LAPC FINAL TABLE RESULTS (USD)

1st Paul Klann $1,004,090
2nd Paul Volpe $651,170
3rd Jesse Yaginuma $429,810
4th Daniel Fuhs $316,650
5th David Fong $236,250
6th Toby Lewis $193,560

FANTASY FOCUS
A grand total of 1,188 FPM Fantasy players (six more than WPT Baden) scored a minimum of points at the WPT LAPC in Los Angeles but the best of them all was Tobias F.  The German scored an amazing 687 FPM Points, 50 points ahead of his closest opposition.  Nine of Tobias’ 11 entries scored points, impressively, none of them scored over 100 points, his highest scorer was Galen Hall (GPI#185) with 91 FPM Points.

Kudos to GPI Top 5 player Michael Watson (GPI#5) who continues his impressive play both on the live felt and on the FPM Fantasy platform.  Watson finished in 18th position, collecting a total of 541 FPM Points.  Watson wasn’t the only pro to score big at the LAPC as FPM regular Jake Cody (GPI#260) also had a great performance at the LPAC, earning 527 FPM points.

THE PERFECT TEAM
Star power was certainly alive and well at the LAPC as a ton of players in the event were available for selection.  The perfect team would have cost you 913,440 to field and would have allowed you to score a whopping 1,196 FPM Points!
