Aussie Millions Breaks Records and Sets Final; Rafa Nadal’s Charity Match

Aussie Millions Action

The Aussie Millions was a bustling bevy of action earlier today as huge sums of money changed hands and final tables were set.

Having lost their one bullet in the Main Event, a gaggle of stars sat down for another shot as success Down Under in the $100,000 Challenge. Pitched as one of the largest Super High Rollers in the world, a slew of recognisable faces, including Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu and Patrik Antonius took to the felt as the cards went in the air.

All hoping not to lose their stack, but more than willing to rebuy if they did, the elite pros wasted little time in getting down to the business of betting and bluffing . Indeed, as the day wore on it became clear that very few players were willing to go down without a fight or rebuying multiple times.

This meant that by the close of play the previous record of 38 entrants had been smashed thanks to 66 overall buy-ins.

One such player who was part of the rebuy antics was Tom Dwan. Despite rumours circulating that he’s either broke or a super millionaire, Tom was forced to reach into his pocket for another $100,000 after tangling with Christoph Vogelsang. Also joining the rebuy madness was Daniel Negreanu and Isaac Haxton who each re-bought five times before the close of play.

At the close of player, however, no amount of financial firepower could help the surviving pros catch Mike McDonald. The Canadian grinder managed to top the daily the leaderboard with 468,500 chips, just ahead of Paul Newey (428,500) and Richard Yong (379,500).

While the first day of the $100,000 Challenge was coming to a close, the elimination of Eoghan O’Dea in 8th place brought Day 4 of the Main Event to an end ahead of tomorrow’s finale.

Rafa Wins for Charity

Rafa Nadal recently put his poker skills to the test against a slew of Spaniards in a charity challenge with €3,000-a-point on the line.

Having been forced onto the sidelines with a back injury, the tennis pro opted to take part in a Zoom Poker Challenge in which he had to play for one hour against a selection of Spanish players.

Designed to benefit the Good Hand Project, the charity contest gave Rafa the chance to earn €3,000 for every hand he managed to win over the course of the session. However, if he lost a hand then the Spanish players would earn a point and the chance to split any winnings at the end of the challenge.

Fortunately, Rafa managed to outpace his opponents and win 50 of the 75 hands he played and bank €15,000 for the Good Hand Project.
