Betfair Partners with Aussie Millions; Gus Questions Players

Betfair Joins Party Down Under

Betfair has just been announced as the official partner of next year’s Aussie Millions. The Australian Championship is one of the largest poker festivals of the year and, when the action kicks off on January 17th , a number of pros are expected to be in attendance.

Indeed, one World Champion who is guaranteed to be in action is Australian native, Joe Hachem. The 2005 WSOP Main Event winner will host a AUD$1,100 rebuy tournament alongside cricket legend, Shane Warne.

The charity event is just one of a number of highlights taking place during the festival. Other standout tournaments on the schedule include AUD$100,000 and AUD$250,000 Super High Roller events, as well as a the AUD$10,600 Main Event.

Betfair’s sponsorship of the event will see their logo emblazoned on the felt of each tournament table, as well as a host of other strategic outlets.

Commenting on the association, the Crown Casino’s Greg Hawkins said:

“The Aussie Millions is Crown’s marquee poker event, and there is terrific alignment between these great, established brands. Sport is an enormous part of Australian culture and Betfair’s unique betting exchange is a fantastic complement to the Aussie Millions, and our poker patrons.”

Gus Causes a Stir

Gus Hansen might have established himself as one of the world’s top tournament players and climbed to 51st place on the GPI’s Danish rankings, but a recent tweet caused a stir amongst poker players.

Having said relatively little about Howard Lederer’s involvement in the downfall of Full Tilt, Gus ignited a heated discussion when he questioned why people dislike the site’s former head honcho.

@RealGusHansen: Do people hate Howard Lederer because of evidence of foul play or because Daniel Negreanu and Jason Mercier tell everybody to hate him?”

While some people sympathised with Gus’s thoughts, the majority of people offering their opinion vehemently disagreed with the Dane.

Quite why Gus decided to make such a statement is unknown, but it’s certainly sparked an interesting debate amongst the poker community during the post-Christmas lull.
