Cody Blogs, Pros Vote “Yes” & Dwan Wins Big

Cody on his Career and his Baby

Jake Cody might be about to enter fatherhood for the first time but he’s not going to let the game pass him by according to a recent blog post.

Determined to continue a run which has seen him become one of the world’s top young players, Jake recently contemplated his position in the poker world in a blog entitled “Transition“.

Discussing how the dawn of his 26th birthday has left him feeling too old to be new school but too young to be old school, the article examines the wise words uttered by previous greats in the game such as Stu Ungar.

Using Ungar’s analogy that poker is a cutthroat game and unskilled players are like lambs “going off to the slaughter“, Jake explained that he has trained himself to stay calm regardless of the situation.

Moreover, he’s found a way to stay emotionless but maintain his ultra competitive spirit without witnessing a decline in his performance.

In the final section of his blog, Jake talks about how the arrival of his first child is only “2 weeks and 4 days away” and he’ll soon be forced to multi-table high stakes poker and being a father.

Players in Favour of Shot Clock

Following its survey of players earlier in the week, the WPT has recently announced the 80% of those asked were in favour of introducing shot clocks next season.

The new came courtesy of Mike Sexton who wrote:

I’m happy to announce that players voted 80%-20% in favour of the shot clock. And there were many added suggestions that certainly will be considered.

He went on to say that he is hoping he’ll see “some type of ‘shot clock’ incorporated by the WPT for Season XIII.”

So far the most high profile player against the idea of a shot clock has been Marvin Rettenmaier, but with the likes of Daniel Negreanu and Antonio Esfandiari stating that they are firmly in favour of punishing “slow-playing wizards“, it’s certainly a move many players will welcome.

Dwan’s Macau Dream

Following on from Tom Hall’s recent report that the stakes in Macau’s big game recently ran as high as $4,000/$8,000 and even $12,500/$25,000, it seems that Tom Dwan is one player who currently thriving at the table.

Thanks to a picture from Poker King Club Macau’s Business Director Winfred Yu, we’ve been treated to a glimpse of Tom in action with at least 25 plaques worth $65,000 in front of him.

Also in front of Dwan are a number of chips and different coloured plaques which could mean he has well in excess of $2 million on the table.

Although we’ll never know exactly how much money Tom or anyone in the game wins, the recent picture certainly gives more credence to the recent rumours that Tom scooped $25 million earlier this year.
