Nock Scoops Top Prize at Deepstack Open

Earlier this week the first Deepstack Open event of 2014 came to a close and standing victorious when the confetti had fallen. The €550 Main Event attracted an impressive 701 entrants; however, when the chips had finished riffling it was Jeremy Nock who walked away with the largest payout, but not the title.

Taking place inside the Cercle Cadet, Paris, the tournament saw three non-French players make one of the top 70 payout places, but it was Welshman Nock who managed to secure the lion’s share of the €342,515 prizepool during a four-way deal.

Indeed, thanks to storming penultimate session, Nock was able to enter the final nine with 30% of the chips in play and as the field decreased he was able to lead the negotiations and lock up a healthy payday.

However, as the four-way finale unfolded it was Nock who hit the rail first after his pocket nines lost out to Fahd Kaabat’s As 6c.

With the Welshman now watching from the rail, it was Florent Monoloni who was the next to fall before Kaabat dispatched with Guy Felder to clinch the title.

UK Poker Championships Announced

The schedule for Sky Poker and Dusk Till Dawn‘s joint venture, the UK Poker Championships, was recently released and thanks to a huge cash injection from both parties the overall prizepool has been set at £800,000.

Kicking off on February 18th and running through until February 23rd, the mid-stakes festival looks set to welcome a slew of grinders as well as professionals looking for some value. Indeed, among those already slated to take part in the £1,100, £500,000 Guarantee Main Event, is the UK Poker Championships ambassador Sam Trickett.

Aside from a series of generous prizepools, the event will also award players points for every cash finish they achieve and at the end of the festival the player with the most points will win a $15,000 Vegas package.

Satellites for the Championships are currently taking place at a number of online rooms, as well as Dusk Till Dawn, and if all goes to plan the organisers are expecting bumper fields for every tournament.

The Micros’ Kickstarter Fund

The poker world’s favourite animated characters, The Micros, could be making a return to our screens in the near future if a recent forum post by Jay Rosenkrantz is to be believed.

Having sat on the product for a number of months due to a lack of finances, Jay and the rest of the show’s creators are currently considering raising their own funds for a new set of animations through Kickstarter:

We do need a sponsor, though lately we have been kicking around the idea of Kickstarting weekly web comics (to continue the story) with the animated series as a stretch goal. If the fans came out with big support, maybe it could convince a sponsor or two to chip in with the rest of the chips.”

Although Jay’s post is just an idea at the moment, he has speculated that if they do go ahead with the Kickstarter it will likely be in March.
