EPT San Remo by Pokerstars.com – Day 1A: This is a Women’s World
Amongst the testosterone filled confines of the main event at PokerStars.com’s EPT San Remo and oasis of oestrogen has broken out. Ladies events might divide the poker community in terms of their purpose, but few can argue that the competition is just a fierce as any open tournament.
This year’s €300+30 (6k chips, 30 min levels) Ladies Event kicks off tomorrow at 6pm, but the three tables full of women have invested some of their bankrolls tonight in a bid to satellite in for cheap.
Nestled in amongst the main event – which is currently playing out its last few levels – at least three women will progress through to face some of the game’s toughest females, such as Liv Boeree who is currently fifth on the GPI’s top 100 Ladies.
However, any woman who wants to break into the top three of the GPI female rankings will have a mammoth task as the women at the summit have some exceptional credentials. Indeed, the list’s runaway leader at the moment is Vanessa Selbst.
The American phenom has won almost $5.5 million and managed to bag her second WSOP bracelet this year in 10-Game six-handed event.
To date she has 2,469.99 points which not only puts her almost 1,000 points clear of Melanie Weisner who sits in second, but seventh in the overall top 300 GPI players.
