EPT San Remo – Day 3: David’s Days

vamplewEarlier today we brought you some strategy insight from David Vamplew following a big hand against Yevgeniy Timoshenko on Day 3 of PokerStars’ EPT San Remo. That pot pushed him up amongst the chip leaders, but as we found out, it’s not all been complex 7-bets pre-flop.

DV: “In the first day I just played tight almost all day. I got aces twice in five hands during level three. That got me to 80,000 chips and then I won a flip soon after that, so I finished the day on 120,000 but I didn’t really feel like I’d used my poker skills very much since.

However, I was certainly happy to take that. On Day 2 I definitely played a lot more hands, but most of my profit came in the first two levels and then the last one.”

So what’s the tournament been like as a whole so far?

DV:The field is definitely a mixture; it always is in EPTs. There are a lot of satellite qualifiers and round the bubble they are always pretty nervous and giving off loads of tells that they don’t want to get their stack in.

Then you’ve got the pros that aren’t going to do those sorts of things and just play better overall. Normally as the field gets whittled down you find there are more pros left, so I don’t expect the final three tables here to be super soft. However, at that point you’ve got a decent cash locked up so it’s not too bad.”

What do you think to San Remo as a place?

DV: “I don’t think I’d come here on holiday, it’s just a lot of old people and a relaxed town, but they have good food and it’s a pretty good set-up here for the EP. It’s definitely a good venue overall. “

So where should people go for food if they ever visit San Remo?

DV: “I like Mare Blu, they do really good lobster. A few people have told me about a place they think is even better though so I’m going to have to try that out I think.”
