European Deepstack Dublin Result, Borgata Chip Victims File Lawsuit

Shine Shines in Dublin

The conclusion of the European Deepstack Championship in Dublin saw a home victory for Ireland after Cathal Shine took home the title and €38,375.

The €550 Main Event got underway late last week and by the time the 450 player field had been whittled down to just one it was Shine who shone in the limelight.

While Shine was able to emerge victorious on the final day, it was Joost Schippers who started the day with both the momentum and the chip lead. Throughout the final table the Dutch grinder took control of much of the action but when the action reached a three-way finale it was Shine who began to dominate.

After scooping a large portion of Schippers’ stack, Shine agreed to an ICM chop of the remaining prizepool was then agreed before sitting back and watching as Schippers eliminated Jonas van Bogaert.

With €4,800 left to play for, Shine didn’t let his earlier momentum get away from him and within a few hands he was able to oust Schippers with pocket jacks against nines to claim the European Deepstack Championship trophy.

Borgata Victims Seek Compensation

Players affected by the recent Borgata chip scandal have filed a lawsuit against the casino and are seeking compensation according to the group’s lawyer Bruce LiCausi.

After learning that the tournament would be stopped with just 27 players remaining because 2.7 million counterfeit chips had been introduced into the event, those who entered were instantly displeased with what had happened.

Although Christian Lusardi was later arrested on charges of fraud, the players that were left out of pocket by his action are now seeking recompense.

With compensation in mind, the group of players, led by Jacob Musterel and LiCausi, are now demanding refunds for their entry fees as well as compensation for travel, food and accommodation costs.

The main thrust of the lawsuit points to a failure by the Borgata to properly police the event and commenting on the case, LiCausi said:

People went expecting a carefully supervised event,” LiCausi said. It’s time that Borgata work to resolve this. They might say this is a learning experience for them, and while that’s laudable, it’s at the expense of the thousands who travelled to Atlantic City and entered this tournament under the expectation that it would be run properly.”
