GPI First Look: Aussie Millions Poker Championship

The poker world will shift their attention from Atlantic City and Deauville, France to Melbourne, Australia as the feature events at the Aussie Millions are set to kickoff:

AUSSIE! AUSSIE! AUSSIE!

Mustapha Kanit GPIIt’s one of the favourite destinations of poker professionals as we’re back to the Crown Casino in Melbourne for the APPT Aussie Millions Poker Championship. While the Main Event is set to start on Sunday, action is already underway down under and one player in particular has enjoyed a great start to his Aussie Millions journey.

Italian pro Mustapha Kanit (GPI#261) started off the series by winning the kickoff event … he followed that up by collecting the W in the Six Max event a few days later, earning a total of $300,000 AUD for his first week in Melbourne.

Kanit started off the 2014 season by finishing fourth in the 25K High Roller event at the 2014 PCA. Once his Aussie results hit the rankings next week, expect a nice jump up in both the GPI300 and 2014 GPI Player of the Year races.

THRILL SEEKERS WELCOMED

Sam Trickett GPIAs mentioned, the 10K Main Event is set to begin on Sunday. Last year Mervin Chan (GPI#4406) pulled the upset defeating the likes of Patrik Antonius and Phil Ivey on his way to his first major title.

But the Aussie Millions also offers three other high buy-in tournaments … the 25K Challenge, the 100K Challenge and the 250K Challenge, all won by name players in 2013:

25K Challenge ›› Igor Kurganov, $275,000 AUD
100K Challenge ›› Andrew Robl, $1,000,000 AUD
250K Challenge ›› Sam Trickett, $2,000,000 AUD
