GPI First Look: WPT Borgata Poker Open

The World Poker Tour is about to get things going again – destination Atlantic City where some of the best American poker players in the world – along with a sprinkle of quality International players – are about to set foot into Borgata in order to find the winner of the 11th edition of the WPT Borgata Poker Open.

BIG WINNERS AT BORGATA

Daniel Negreanu GPIThere certain are some big names who have won the Borgata Poker Open … none bigger than Kid Poker, Daniel Negreanu (GPI#2), who would win this tournament in Season 3. Negrenau would go on to win the Five Diamond World Poker Classic later in that season. A third place finish at the World Poker Open would clinch the WPT Player of the Year title for Kid Poker that season.

But Negreanu isn’t the only big name to have won the tournament: Noli Francisco, Roy Winston, Vivek Rajkumar, Olivier Busquet, Dwyte Pilgrim, Bobby Oboodi and defending champ Benjamin Hamnett have all had their names engraved on the WPT Champions Cup thanks to their Borgata Poker Open victory.

DUO LOOKING FOR A RESET

Andy Frankenberger GPIRecent times haven’t been so kind for popular poker pros former WPT Player of the Year Andy Frankenberger (GPI#326) and David Diaz (GPI#318) – who made two WPT final tables during Season XI.

Sure seems like the time is right for one of them to takeover Atlantic City and make a deep run in this event … over 1,000 players expected yet again at Borgata, cards are in the air at 11am ET Sunday morning – best of luck to all players!
