GPI300: Schemion Debuts at #1, Schwartz Joins Top 10, Ivey’s Back!

We have a new man at the top of the pops, another star moves into the Top 10 and some guy named Ivey is back in the 300 :

VIEW FROM THE TOP

Ole Schemion GPIAfter spending six weeks atop the GPI300, Marvin Rettenmaier (GPI#2, -1) gives way to fellow German Ole Schemion (GPI#1, +1), who makes his debut as the #1 player in the world this morning.

There is no denying that Schemion has been “the” player to watch over the past 12 months, the fact that he arrives at #1 so early in his poker career should come as no surprise to anyone.

Noah Schwartz GPIA first WSOP bracelet victory in Enghien-les-Bains for Noah Schwartz (GPI#6, +19) also means that the Florida native re-enters the GPI Top 10 for the first time since July 2012. Although he did spend a few weeks in the Top 10 that summer, this is the highest Schwartz has ever been ranked in his career.

Daniel Negreanu (GPI#8, -5) moves down five spots to #8 this week, although his current run at the WSOPE High Roller final table could see him moving back up next week … Bryn Kenney (GPI#14, -6) moves back out of the Top 10 this week.

Vitaly Lunkin GPIRussia’s Vitaly Lunkin (GPI#187, +99) makes the biggest move inside the 300 this week. Lunkin, who finished third in the 3K PLO Mixed Max Event at WSOP Europe, moves 99 positions into the Top 200 this week. Lunkin won the Super High Roller event last month at EPT Barcelona.

Team Winamax Pro Manuel Bevand (GPI#164, +64), who recently spent five weeks outside the GPI300, continues to rise this week. Two weeks after being ranked #308, cashes in the EPT London Main Event and in a bracelet event at WSOP Europe have helped the French pro to rise up to #164.

Max Greenwood (GPI#83, +52), Phil Hellmuth (GPI#96, +31) and PokerNews GPI Update Podcast star Tommy Vedes (GPI#262, +30) are a few other names on the rise this week.

DOWN THE LADDER

Dominik Nitsche GPIRobert Haigh (GPI#254, -87) takes the biggest drop this week falling over 80 spots to #254. Fellow German Dominik Nitsche (GPI#111, -30) also takes a tumble this week, although expect him to jump right back into form in next week’s rankings as Nitsche is set to take part in final table action in the WSOP Europe Main Event on Friday.

After being ranked as high as #71 in May, the #1 ranked player on the GPI National Romania charts, Mihai Manole (GPI#250, -38) continues to drop in the rankings. Tamer Kamel (GPI#284, -31) also dropped this week, although things could be worse for the UK player. After being ranked in the 2000’s in March Kamel has skyrocketed up the standings since, currently spending his second straight week inside the 300.

IN-N-OUT

Fabrice Soulier GPIThe World Series of Poker Europe has been very good for the French trio of Erwann Pecheux (GPI#221, +85), Flavien Guenan (GPI#252, +62) and Fabrice Soulier (GPI#286, +68), who have all cashed in a bracelet event in Enghien-les-Bains … things are about to get even better for Soulier who, like Nitsche, will play the final table at the WSOPE Main Event on Friday.

A special “welcome back” to poker superstar Phil Ivey (GPI#300, +147) who returns to the GPI300 this week after spending the past seven weeks on the outside looking in.

Martin Staszko GPIOn the flip-side, things aren’t as rosy for former WSOP November Niner Martin Staszko (GPI#303, -18) who’s on again, off again relationship with the GPI300 is once again on the outs. Staszko’s battle to gain permanent membership inside the 300 has been going on since August 2012.

Max Lykov (GPI#312, -25), Melanie Weisner (GPI#332, -65), Andrew Chen (GPI#349, -54) and upcoming November Niner Ryan Riess (GPI#345, -48) all fall out of the GPI300 this week. Riess will have a perfect opportunity to jump back into the race in just a few weeks time.
