GUKPT Finale; James Dempsey Joins Ivey

GUKPT Finale

The GUKPT is gearing up for its season finale this Saturday with a packed roster of 15 events.

Before the schedule of side events beings on Sunday, the Grosvenor Victoria Casino in London will host a £50 feeder event to the £350 main event satellite.

With the early satellites out of the way the masses’ attention will turn to the £200 No Limit Hold’em freezeout on Monday, 26th November.

The action will continue to crescendo until the 30th when a season’s worth of preparation comes to a climax in the £2,500 Grand Final.

Last year’s event attracted a host of world-class players, generating a prizepool of almost £500,000, and when the chips had finished flying it was Jake Cody and Fabian Quoss left battling it out for the title.

Only one could walk away with the £199,996 first place prize, though, and after a tense battle it was Quoss who became the champion.

This year’s final is expected to attract another bumper field and, with a 25,000 chip starting stack and one hour clock, the action will be just as entertaining as last time around.

Dempsey Joins Ivey’s Elite

One of Europe’s top tournament players, and the UK’s 11th ranked GPI player, James Dempsey has become the latest player to join Team Ivey.

The British grinder is also a noted cash game player and joins an ever-growing roster of elite poker players.

Indeed, in addition to IveyPoker’s original members Patrik Antonius and Jennifer Harman, James will join the likes of Cole South and 2012 WSOP Main Event, Greg Merson.

Commenting on his latest sponsorship deal, James tweeted: “I feel very honoured to be able to announce I am the latest addition to Ivey Poker’s pro roster!”

While Phil Ivey’s site is still only accepting initial sign-ups, the list of poker players lending their talents and support to the project is certainly impressive; something which should make for  valuable resource once it launches.

Sweden Conquers Finland

This year’s Pokerfinnkampen concluded recently with Sweden’s Martin Johansson taking top honours in the main event.

The annual festival pits two of the world’s finest poker playing nations, Sweden and Finland, against each other in a battle for national pride.

Held over the course of three days at Tallinn’s Reval Park Casino, last year’s winner was from Finland but the Swede’s were in a confident mood with the likes of Jens Henrik Riis contesting the event.

Indeed, while the money at stake was far from life changing, the amount of pride on the line was palpable.

After three days of action a final table consisting of four Swedes and four Finns were left battling for the title and 5,200 first place prize.

With the pace evenly matched it was Johansson who not boosted his bankroll but his country’s pride after their first ever Pokerfinnkampen victory.
