Irish Poker Open Result, Chaplin Claims APAT World Title

Clarke Jabs His Way to an Irish Open Title

Arguably the most popular event on the European schedule came to a conclusion last night and when the confetti had finished falling it was Patrick Clarke who stood smiling as the newest Irish Poker Open champion.

Hailing from Louth and qualifying for the Irish Open Main Event courtesy of €4 satellite on Paddy Power Poker, Clarke was able to sip a victory Guinness after weaving his way through a 411-player field before beating Dave Pollock heads-up.

Over the course of the Easter weekend it looked as though the “Voice of Poker“, Jesse May, would walk away with the title after being amongst the leaders with just two sessions to go. However, a run of bad cards and some mistimed moves meant the poker broadcaster found himself hitting the rail in 17th place and picking up €7,599.

With May gone and Clarke in the middle of the pack as the final table got underway, the early action was certainly fitted the finale’s setting inside a boxing ring as players were knocked out at a rapid pace.

As expected, Clarke was amongst those doing some swinging and by the time he’d eliminated Liam Chevalier in third he was able to focus his attention on Dave Pollock. After using his dominant stack to jab at his opponent, Clarke was eventually able to clinch the final pot after his Kd 8d maintained its advantage over Pollock’s [Qs] 7c.

With the remainder of Pollock’s chips now in his possession, a jubilant Clarke was able to celebrate his first Irish Poker Open title as well as a top prize worth €200,000. On top of the online qualifier was able to claim Paddy Power Poker’s €50,000 Sole Survivor bonus for being the final satellite entrant left in the Main Event.

Poker Gods Smile on Chaplin

Whilst the Irish Poker Open was coming to a conclusion in Dublin on Monday, APAT’s World Championship of Amateur Poker was also crowing its latest batch of winners yesterday.

On top of Pak To claiming the top prize in the heads-up event, Tristan Chaplin was left smiling after picking up £7,500 and the APAT World Championship trophy in the Main Event.

After starting the final day in the middle of the pack, Chaplin was able to grind his way through the field and eventually took control as those around him fell on the final table.

Despite his starting stack being comparatively weak when the finale began, Chaplin was able to sit tight and pick his moments as the likes of Guy Taylor, Rod Davies and Rob Quinn hit the rail.

Indeed, by the time he found himself heads-up with Levente Varga the amateur grinder was able reverse a slight deficit and scoop the title after his Kh 6s was enough to see off his opponent’s 6d 5s.

With the final pot won the curtain was finally brought down on another successful APAT WCOAP.
