Liu and Liu Win in Macau

The Asia Pacific Poker Tour, commonly known as APPT, was in Macau at the City of Dreams for a mid-May series, and two Lius emerged victorious in the largest tournaments.

The Main Event required a HK $25,000 buy-in and drew 494 players, setting a new record. The prize pool was a massive HK $11,021,140, out of which the top 60 players were paid. Players like JJ Liu and Christian Haggart cashed.

The May 24 final table found Billy “The Croc” Argyros looking for his second APPT title, but he ended up finishing in third place. Jiajun Liu was the ultimate winner, and the payouts for the final table players were as follows:

1st place: Jiajun Liu (HK $2,776,000)

2nd place: Cyril Andre (HK $1,693,000)

3rd place: Billy Argyros (HK $940,000)

4th place: Thomas McGarrity (HK $737,000)

5th place: Yen Han Chen (HK $575,000)

6th place: Carlos Kuo Chang (HK $464,000)

7th place: Jean Marie Peyron (HK $355,000)

8th place: Yat Wai Cheng (HK $273,000)

9th place: Sailesh Verma (HK $198,140)

The other big tournament was the APPT Macau High Roller, which required a HK $100,000 buy-in. There were 59 players willing to ante up, which created a prize pool of HK $1,831,000.

The top seven players were paid, and one of the top-ranking female players in the world, JJ Liu, was at the final table and in the money. When it all played out, the top three players made a deal for the remainder of the cash in order to distribute it more evenly, but an extra HK $373,000 was left to add to the winner’s take. And that winner was JJ Liu.

1st place: JJ Liu (HK $1,420,000)

2nd place: Quan Zhou (HK $1,275,000)

3rd place: Chen Wang (HK $1,078,000)

4th place: Rui Cao (HK $610,000)

5th place: Magnus Karlsson (HK $444,000)

6th place: Huidong Gu (HK $388,000)

7th place: Zongyao Zhang (HK $333,950)
