Jiajun Liu Wins APPT Macau Main Event

The Asia Pacific Poker Tour was at the City of Dreams in Macau for its latest stop. The HKD $25K buy-in Main Event kicked off on May 21 and finished on May 24 with Jianjun Liu in the winner’s circle.

The tournament drew 494 entries over the course of two starting days to create a prize pool of HK $11,021,140. The top 60 players were paid, but not until Day 2 thinned the field from 206 players down to 51.

Day 3 saw players like JJ Liu and Peter Chan finish in the money, but when play stopped, only nine players remained and Thomas Mcgarrity was atop the leaderboard, followed by Jiajun Liu.

Action at that final table saw short-stacked Billy Argyros build a formidable stack, though he ran into some bad situations and ultimately exited third. Frenchman Cyril Andre had the chip lead going into heads-up against Liu, but the latter got aggressive, took the lead, and captured the title.
