Michael Phelps Votes for Volpe

One of the winners of the first week of the 2014 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas was Paul Volpe. He was already building quite an impressive résumé in poker, both in live tournaments and online, but he sought a major tournament victory.

Volpe got it a few days ago by winning the No-Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball event, a poker variation that shows off a player’s versatility in the world of poker.

One of his supporters was none other than Olympic gold medalist and world record swimmer Michael Phelps, who tweeted a good luck message to Volpe on the final day of the tournament:

“Good luck @paulgees81!!! Get it kid!!! Lets gooooo”

Volpe went on to win, defeating Daniel Negreanu to do so. Negreanu was aggressively seeking his seventh WSOP gold bracelet, but Volpe maintained dominance during heads-up play to win.
