Lunkin Dominates EPT Super High Roller
Russia’s Vitaly Lunkin managed to claim the largest prize of the European Poker Tour season so far with a win in the Barcelona €50,000 Super High Roller.
51 players took the felt late last week, but the elite event came to a conclusion yesterday after Lunkin beat Erik Seidel to claim the €771,300 top prize.
Despite starting with eight players only seven would get paid and the unfortunate moniker of “bubble boy” fell to Timothy Adams. Having entered the finale with the shortest stack, Adams eventually moved all-in from the button with Ks 9s but found himself up against Seidel’s Qh Qc.
A wave of optimism quickly consumed Adams as the flop rolled out: 2c 4d Kc; however, as the Tc and 3c fell on the turn and river the pot was pushed towards Seidel and he found himself without any chips.
With at least €128,515 now guaranteed the eliminations began in earnest as Germany’s Fabian Quoss and Ole Schemion hit the rail before David Benefield, Mike McDonald and Steve O’Dwyer all followed suit.
The departure of the table’s youngsters left the experienced heads of Erik Seidel and Vitaly Lunkin battling for the title and as they swapped chips it became clear neither was going down without a fight.
However, something had to give and, after being ground down by Lunkin, Seidel took a stand with Kd Qc. Lunkin was able to make a casual call with As 5d and after the board ran out: 6s As 6c 8c 4s he was crowned the first Super High Roller Champion of EPT Season 10.
EPT Barcelona Super High Roller Final Result:
1st Vitaly Lunkin – €771,300

3rd Steve O’Dwyer – €355,100

Cody to Become a Father
He’s one of the best tournament grinders in the world, but this weekend Jake Cody made the biggest announcement of his career: he’s going to be a dad.
Writing on his new website, Jake explained that his girlfriend found out she was pregnant 11 weeks ago and since then his initial shock has turned into overwhelming joy.
The couple are expecting their first child to be born at some point in May 2014 and so far Jake has admitted that it’s been a scary experience. However, thanks to support of his friends and family, things have been pretty stress free so far.
Indeed, already his poker playing peers have been suggesting names and certain poker attributes they need to teach the child once it’s born so they can crush it like their daddy.
