PCA Main Event Sets Prize Pool, HPT Adds Mississippi Event

PCA Main Event Surpasses Guarantee

While the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure began on January 5, the $10K NLHE Main Event with a $10 million guarantee actually started on January 7. There were 295 players on Day 1A and another 710 on Day 1B.

Registration closed at the start of Day 2 on January 9, and the final number of entrants was 1,031, which surpassed the guarantee to set the prize pool at $10,070,000. The top 151 players will be paid from that amount, with the minimum payout set at $17,600 and the winner set to receive more than $1.8 million.

Day 2 started with 644 players but ended with only 215, setting up the money bubble for Day 3. Of the remaining players, Pascal Lefrancois was the chip leader with 412K. The leaderboard showed Sam Greenwood in second place with 402,500 chips and Matt Berkey in third with 372,100 in his stack.

HPT Expands to Mississippi

The Heartland Poker Tour announced that it is adding another new stop to its Season 10 tour in 2014. Ameristar Casino in Vicksburg, Mississippi, will host the series starting on March 14-24, with the $1,650 Main Event set for the final few days of that period.

The new season of the HPT is just preparing to get underway with its HPT on the High Seas Caribbean cruise setting sail January 12-19. The new Ameristar Vicksburg tournament is set to take place between the Agua Caliente California stop and the Daytona Beach Kennel Club tournament in Florida.
