PCA Super High Roller Sets Prize Pool

The 2014 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure got underway on January 5 with the $100K NLHE Reentry Super High Roller tournament. Day 1 brought in 52 entries, which consisted of 45 unique players. Only 40 made it through the night.

Registration was open until the start of Day 2, at which point the field was set with 56 entries – 46 unique players, including the newly-registered Vladimir Schemelev. Guy Laliberte and Daniel Negreanu each bought in three times. The prize pool was set at $5,433,120, which was enough to pay the top eight players with more than $1.6 million set for the winner.

Play continued late into the night in search of the final table, and after Ole Schemion doubled through Max Altergott, the latter was eliminated in tenth place. The unofficial final table was set as follows:

Vanessa Selbst (3,500,000)

Matthew Glantz (2,170,000)

Dan Shak (2,000,000)

Antonio Esfandiari (1,810,000)

Mike McDonald (1,625,000)

Ole Schemion (1,215,000)

Anthony Gregg (660,000)

Paul Newey (520,000)

The World Poker Tour is midway through its Season XII, and the tallies for the WPT Player of the Year award have been released. As of the end of 2013, Dan Smith and Vasili Firsau are tied with 1,400 points each.

Smith won the WPT Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic in December and cashed in two other events. Firsau had two second place finishes thus far, one at the Aviation Club de France and the other at the bwin WPT Prague event.

Four players are tied for third place – Anthony Zinno, Derrick Rosenbarger, Gary Benson, and Jordan Cristos.

The winner of the POY race will have free hotel accommodations and ground transportation at each WPT Main Event of the next season.
