Poker in the Caribbean, Ivey and Trickett in Training

All Eyes Turning Towards the Caribbean

With the summer almost over in Europe it seems thoughts are already turning towards a winter of poker in the Caribbean.

Traditionally one of the staple destinations for grinders wanting to escape dreary weather conditions, tropical islands such as the Bahamas, Saint Maarten and Punta Cana will be awash with pros over the next few months.

First to land in the tropics will be the inaugural Caribbean Poker Tour, which will feature a number of low to mid range events as well as a high roller tournament organised by Tobias Reinkemeier.

To get a bit more insight into the CPT, make sure you check out our exclusive interview with one of the men behind the festival.

Beyond the CPT, players will also be focusing on PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. Indeed, in the last few hours the organisers have revealed the first satellites for the event.

Taking place on PokerStars, the Mega Path satellites will run several times a day and give players a chance to win a $15,560 package for just 10 frequent player points.

Last year more than 400 people qualified for the PCA through one of PokerStars’ Mega Satellites and, according to the festival’s Director of Operations, David Carrion, 53 of those qualifiers took home “more than $3.5 million between them”.

Ivey and Trickett’s Secret Skills

Sam Trickett and Phil Ivey are undoubtedly two of the best players in the world and in the last 24 hours the poker community has been given a glimpse into their secret strategies.

First to give away his secret was Ivey when he explained that the only plays for “forks and knives” in his spare time.

Featured in a Vine video alongside music producer Steve Aoki, Ivey gave a quick wink to the camera before raking in a pot of knives and forks.

While Ivey hones his skills against world famous DJs, it seems that Sam Trickett improves his reading skills by watching the Jeremy Kyle show.

Currently vacationing in Spain with his girlfriend, Natasha Sandhu, Sam apparently spent half the morning in his hotel room watching the British chat show in a bid to brush-up on his skills.

Indeed, according to a tweet from Natasha, Sam was watching the show “to see if he could get reads on the liars”. The training is obviously paying off as Trickett later responded that he correctly guessed 6 out of 6 potential liars.
