Quoss Wins PCA SHR, PCA Main Event Begins, WPT Signs Monster Deal

Quoss Wins PCA Super High Roller

The first major event of the 2014 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure was the $100K NLHE Super High Roller tournament with reentries allowed. The tournament drew a total of 56 entries, 46 of which were unique players. The prize pool was $5,433,120, out of which the top eight players were to be paid.

Day 2 thinned the field down slowly, and late into the night, the tenth place elimination of Max Altergott brought about the final table and money bubble. It took quite a while, but eventually, Fabian Quoss eliminated Paul Newey and Mike McDonald in one hand, the latter cashing in eighth place.

The final table was set for January 7 with Dan Shak in the chip lead and Vanessa Selbst close behind. The short stacks departed first, and Antonio Esfandiari then fell in fourth. Selbst then lost ground at the hands of Quoss and was eliminated by him in third place. Quoss took a two-to-one chip lead into heads-up play and increased his stack until he declared victory.

1st place: Fabian Quoss ($1,629,940)

2nd place: Dan Shak ($1,178,980)

3rd place: Vanessa Selbst ($760,640)

4th place: Antonio Esfandiari ($575,920)

5th place: Matthew Glantz ($445,520)

6th place: Anthony Gregg ($347,720)

7th place: Ole Schemion ($277,080)

PCA $10 Million Guarantee Main Event Begins

The first flight of the PCA Main Event began on January 7 and attracted 295 players to the $10K buy-in tournament. Many popular poker players were in the field, as well as NBA basketball star Gilbert Arenas and actor Jason Alexander.

Only 184 players made it through the night, and Dylan Hortin of the United States was the chip leader with 160,500 chips. He won his seat to the PCA Main Event on PokerStars via a FPP tournament. Victor Levy is second on the leaderboard with 160,500 chips, followed by Sam Greenwood with 132,500.

WPT Partners with Monster

The World Poker Tour announced a deal with Monster, Inc., making Monster the official headphones at all WPT Main Events around the world. The deal consists of sponsorship at live events and on television through 2016.

Players and fans at each WPT stop will be able to test the products, and all players who reach WPT televised final tables will receive a complimentary pair of headphones. There will be a new segment on WPT programs called the “Monster Hand of the Day,” and there will be a charity tournament called the “Monster Invitational” that will be held in 2014 and air in two episodes as part of Season 13.
