Shulman Wins CPPT, WPT Announces Alpha8, HPT Heads to Cali

The Card Player Poker Tour‘s stop at the Deep Stack Extravaganza in Las Vegas came to a close on July 17 with one of Card Player’s own taking the title. The $5,000 NLHE Main Event drew 262 players for a prize pool of $1,224,850 and set the final table of nine players on July 16. Allyn Jaffrey Shulman was the last player standing when the tournament wrapped, defeating original chip leader Alex Condon to win nearly $294K in first place money.

WPT Launches Alpha8 with FOX Sports

The World Poker Tour announced WPT Alpha8, a new series of high roller poker tournaments to feature buy-ins of $100,000 or more. The events will be held in North America, Europe, Asia, and South Africa, with the first to be part of the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open in Hollywood, Florida, on August 26, 2013. All will be filmed for later broadcast on FOX Sports 1 beginning in March 2014.

WPT Executive Tour Director Matt Savage has designed the structures, and Lynn Gilmartin will be the show’s anchor. Along with a newly-designed set, the series will offer viewers four hours of coverage from each event.

HPT Adds California Stops in 2013

The Heartland Poker Tour is adding even more stops to its 2013 season, announcing today that it will stop at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles in September. The dates for that stop were revealed to be September 4 to September 23. The first event will be a $150 buy-in tournament on September 4.

In addition, HPT will travel to Club One Casino in Fresno, California, from September 27 to October 6. The two stops, along with one at Thunder Valley Casino Resort in Sacramento, are being dubbed as the HPT Gold Rush Series. Players can accumulate points at any of the three locations and compete for the Player of the Year race and title of Gold Rush Champion.
