UKIPT Day 1B; GSOP Vienna Nearing Final Table

UKIPT Cork Continues to Pop

Day 1A of PokerStars’ UKIPT Cork came to a conclusion yesterday and after a day of action it was a German who topped the chip counts.

Having lined up with 142 other players, Pascal Tongi survived a day of aggressive play from the local talent looking to gamble their way through into Day 2.

With 58 players remaining Tongi’s 124,500 chips were enough to leave him comfortably ahead of local lad Karl Thompson (99,400) and British grinder Stephen McGrath (82,400).

As predicted, today’s session has seen not only a marked increase in the number of runners, but in the talent level.

Jake Cody, Liv Boeree and recent GSP winner Julian Thew are all still in the mix with five levels of today’s session gone.

Thanks to a healthy field of 387, the €250,000 guarantee has been broken, meaning the remaining players are shooting for a prizepool of €262,733.

Broken down into 48 payout place, that means this year’s winner will receive the tidy sum of €60,440.

GSOP Finale Looming

While poker stars align in Cork for UKIPT’s second starting day, the march towards the final table of GSOP Vienna is growing ever closer.

Day 2 produced more of the same from Miroslav Lelek as the Slovakian grinder collected enough chips to finish the day within the top two chip counts.

For all his efforts though, Lelek’s 343,000 stack wasn’t quite enough to eclipse the 356,000 chip mountain of Karel Kratochvil.

With only 45 players heading into today’s third session and each player guaranteed some money, the final table is now within sight.

Indeed, less than 20 players now remain and currently still in contention for the top prize is Manig Loeser, Vladislav Donchev and Jouni Kallio.
