UKIPT Galway’s Latest Movers and Shakers

UKIPT Galway Latest

Despite Steve O’Dwyer controlling the previous two sessions of UKIPT Galway’s Irish Championship, it was home-grown grinder Trevor Dinneen that eventually came through yesterday’s finale victorious.

After welcoming back seven players in the €2,500 event it was Peter Murphy who hit the rail first, just before Max Silver suffered a cataclysmic blow.

Having entered the final amongst the chip leaders, Silver’s failed coup with top pair and a flush draw against Ian Gascoigne’s pocket kings was enough leave on life support. Without much hope left the young Brit hit the rail soon after while Gascoigne thrived.

However, despite a rush of cards, Gascoigne could only outlast one more player before hitting the rail in fourth place.

With the field rapidly thinning it looked as though O’Dwyer would power through to victory, especially after Marc MacDonnell hit the rail in third.

However, the American pro’s heads-up exchange with Dinneen didn’t go to plan and after losing the majority of early pots he finally succumbed to his opponent’s pressure.

With that it was Dinneen who lifted the winner’s trophy along with €39,450 while O’Dwyer scurried off to €27,480 to sign up for the next available tournament

As things were coming to a close in the Irish Championship, 231 players were lining up for the opening day of UKIPT Galway’s Main Event.

With a guaranteed prizepool of €1,000,000 a number of pros were in the field and at the time of writing just 159 players remained and currently riding high in the chip counts are Dino Sabatini, Lee Taylor and Max Silver.
