UKIPT Heads to Edinburgh, Pro Swims With Sharks (Literally)
UKIPT Edinburgh Gets Underway
UKIPT Edinburgh got underway earlier today with the first in a series of events that will culminate with a £1,000+£100 Main Event featuring a £500,000 guarantee.
Sitting as the tour’s first festival of 2014, the festival is expected to welcome a number of Europe’s finest players, including the likes of PokerStars pro Jake Cody, when Main Event gets into its stride tomorrow.
Edinburgh’s Assembly Rooms will be playing host for the coming week and with 800 seats in the Main Event on offer the organisers are hoping to break the preset prizepool, just as the Genting Poker Series Nottingham did last week.
Also on the menu for those taking a trip to the Scottish capital will be a host of cash games and side events, including the Edinburgh Cup (£300+£0 single re-entry) and an eight-handed £2,000+£200 High Roller.
Last season saw 612 players take part in a slighter cheaper UKIPT Edinburgh (£770) and that time around the winner’s trophy and £101,000 top prize went to Brazil Nicolau Villa-Lobos.
Highlights of the UKIPT Edinburgh Schedule:
January 16 – Thursday
12:00 3 UKIPT Main Event – Day 1A £1000 + £100
January 17 – Friday
12:00 3 UKIPT Main Event – Day 1B £1000 + £100
January 18 – Saturday

Torres Swims with Sharks
The PCA might be over for another year but that doesn’t mean the crazy stories have dried up. Indeed, with people now coming down from the festival’s high a wave of prop betting tales have emerged from the Atlantis Resort, including the antics of PokerStars pro Fredy Torres.
With his trip coming to an end and his cash running low, Torres decided to accept a crazy bet and jump into the resorts shark tank. Needing just $1,000 to persuade him, the Columbian pro eventually summoned up the courage and made the jump before clambering back to safety like a distressed seal.
The move was certainly unwise and potentially dangerous, but as poker prop bets go it’s certainly one of the more interesting we’ve come across in recent years.
