UKIPT Hits the Isle of Man, Dusk Till Dawn’s New Event

UKIPT IOM Begins

UKIPT‘s first Main Event in the diminutive Isle of Man got underway earlier today and sitting down for the opening flight was some of the poker’s biggest names. Having made the trip to the home of PokerStars HQ earlier this week, the likes of Daniel Negreanu, Liv Boeree and Jake Cody will all be among those competing for the top prize in the £1,000+£100 fiesta.

As well as a chance to play in one of the best festivals in Europe, players will also get a chance to mingle with members of PokerStars office workers as they try to claim their own slice of tournament glory.

Commenting on the inaugural UKIPT IOM, the tour’s president, Kirsty Thompson, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming high-profile, poker professionals to the Isle of Man. For many of them, this is their first time visiting the Isle of Man, and they will be joining hundreds of players on a journey to PokerStars’ home town.”

In addition to the Main Event, players travelling to the Isle of Man will be able to contest a number of side events, including the £300+£30 Isle of Man Cup as well as the £2,000+£200 High Roller.

DTD Launches New Tournament Format

Europe’s premier card room, Dusk Till Dawn, has just announced its latest tournament venture and in the spirit of innovation it will be somewhat different previous events.

In a bid to add a new layer of entertainment to its tournaments, the DTD £50,000 Guaranteed Big Game will host three starting flights with one of them taking place online. For £100+£10 players can buy-in and receive 20,000 chips and try their best to make it through the session.

The twist in the tail then comes on Day 2 when the blinds are rolled back to 500/1,000 and additional players are allowed to buy-in for an increased buy-in of £500+£50 and receive 100,000 chips.

The incarnation of the new tournament gets underway on November 6 and, according to DTD’s Simon Trumper, a number of pros are expected to ante-up because it will finish on a Saturday rather than a Sunday.

Speaking to PokerNews UK, Trumper explained that many professionals shy away from the club’s biggest events because the final is on a Sunday and this will disrupt their online grinds. This new tournament is a response to that and the reason he believes it will become a popular tournament on the UK scene.
