Mayhew Clinches UKIPT Nottingham Title

Ben Mayhew became the latest UKIPT champion after causing mayhem during yesterday’s Nottingham 6-max finale. Having survived the advances of more than 450 players, Mayhew enjoyed a rush of luck on the final table to edge his way past more established grinders, including: Sergio Aido, Tim Wong and Ben Vinson.

With three players down and just three remaining a bout of financial wrangling took place as Mayhew, Tony Salmon and David Clifton-Burraway each made a claim on a piece of the prizepool. After running the numbers and doing their own personal calculations, the trio finally agreed to award Clifton-Burraway and Salmon £66,514 and £59,296 respectively, while Mayhew locked up £62,840.

With their financial fortunes sealed the pressure was lifted but that didn’t seem to suit Burraway. Despite a deep run, the British grinder wasn’t able to clinch the title and eventually fell away in third place leaving only Salmon in Mayhew’s path.

Now playing for the title and an extra £10,000, Mayhew gradually ground down his opponent before scooping the last of the tournament’s chips when his Ad Kc was able to outrace Salmon’s sixes. With that the tournament was brought to a conclusion and a visibly emotional Mayhew was crowned the inaugural UKIPT 6-max Main Event Champion.
