WPT Barcelona: Draft Paul Berende

FPM logoNOTE: This player has made it to Day 2 play with a top 10 chip stack – a little over 100K – thus, he will indeed play on Day 2 Sunday.

It is advisable to add Paul Berende (GPI#57) to your WPT Barcelona Fantasy team … well, that is, if you’re planning on winning the thing!  There is no question that Paul Berende has been a solid player on the live tournament circuit for a while now – the only thing missing from Berende’s CV is a major title to go along with the hardware he has already collected.

Although not part of a major tour, some would point out that Berende has indeed won a major event on the live tournament circuit, in fact, it was his first score ever, when he won a side event at the Master Classics of Poker in 2010, one of the most important series of events on the Dutch poker calendar.

Berende came oh so close to winning a major tour title a little over a month ago when he – along with Marvin Rettenmaier (GPI#1) – final tabled WPT Baden at the 2013 Austrian Poker Festival.  And while Mad Marvin was done early, Berende would make it all the way to heads-up play, only to lose the title to Serbian Vladimir Bozinovic (GPI#1635) … the € 130,000 he pocketed surely lessened the blow!

Berende had a disappointing result at EPT London.  After finishing Day 1 play as one of the chip leaders (and being added onto many FPM teams), Berende shockingly didn’t make it out of Day 2 play and was sent home wondering where it all went wrong.  Up and coming star Marc-André Ladouceur (GPI#72) suffered the same fate as Berende.

The Dutch pro was able to make something out of his trip to London, however, posting a third place finish in the 5K NLH Six-Handed event and collecting € 27,160 for his efforts.

The Top 60 GPI player should definitely be part of your short list as lineups are due shortly for Barcelona.

> Has been very consistent for a long stretch

> Seems due for a big title
