WPT Borgata: Pick Jaka, Charania, or Salsberg

FPM logoWarning!  A three-headed monster has invaded The Borgata!

Faraz Jaka FPM cardLate Saturday, former WPT Player of the Year Faraz Jaka (GPI #102) took to Twitter to announce that, fresh off their appearance at the 2013 NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship, he, reigning WPT Rendez-Vous à Paris champion Matt Salsberg (GPI #157) and defending EPT Grand Final winner Mohsin Charania (GPI #19) were all on a plane, en route to Atlantic City for the WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open.

Believe it or not, Jaka revealed that despite touring the world on the poker circuit, this will be his first ever visit to Atlantic City – which is quite shocking for a poker pro who has lived part of his life in Chicago – a short flight to what was once a destination city for any poker player in North America.

Although he has not made a deep run in a Main Event since his third place finish in the PCA Main Event in 2012, Jaka has made a few runs in side events, including 4th place finish in the Mixed-Max event at WSOP Europe in September.

Jaka has spent some time away from the tables which explains why his current Market Value (187,820) on the GPI Fantasy Poker Manager player list is lower than what some would expect – but that may be the exact reason why you should give Jaka! Jaka! a try!

Matt Salsberg FPM cardSalsberg became a household name when he survived a quality final table over in Paris to win his first WPT title.

Although he does have a day job (spending time in Hollywood writing scripts for successful television shows such as Weeds), Salsberg has been spending most of his time on the felt since his big win.  A repeat WPT performance is not out of the question and at a very affordable price (97,070), he could very easily fill out one of the last spots on your squad.

Mohsin Charania FPM CardCharania has had two deep runs in WPT Main Events since his big win in Monte Carlo last April.

Like Salsberg, Charania dug deep in Paris, trying to defeat a big-time final table in order to pickup his first WPT title.  Sadly, it wasn’t meant to be for the Chicago native and he had to settle for fifth.

He followed that performance up by going deep in the WPT bestbet Fall Series (won by Noah Schwartz) running out of steam a few spots before the final table, bowing out in 10th position.

Is this finally Charania’s time to shine on the World Poker Tour?  If you think so, it will cost you!  Charania will have to play a huge role on your team given his 415,990 value on the GPI Fantasy Poker Manager Market Place – but, given his recent performances in big events, Mohsin might be your man.
