WPT Copenhagen Continues: Cody Leaves PKR

WPT Copenhagen Day 1B Recap

The World Poker Tour’s first visit to Copenhagen has yielded an impressive turnout, with a host of well known players taking the opportunity to sample the city’s delights.

After watching 98 players ante-up on Day 1A, a further 131 players sat down yesterday to challenge for the inaugural WPT Copenhagen title.

With a total field of 229 players the event will certainly be hailed as a success, but for some players the chance for a personal victory is just a distant memory. Of those who took to the felt yesterday, Daniel Cates, John Eames, Soren Konsgaard and Tony G were the most notable casualties.

In contrast, those who thrived in the new surroundings were Ville Wahlbeck and Kara Scott (who’d both been eliminated on Day 1A but returned for a second chance yesterday), as well as Sean Jazayeri and Sergii Baranov.

Indeed, it was Baranov who led the pack at the end of the day with 110,400 chips. The bulging stack was enough to put him in fourth place overall at the start of today’s session.

European Master to be Crowned in Dublin

This week sees another poker party in Ireland as the European Masters of Poker hits Dublin. Following on from last weekend’s BoylePoker.com International Poker Open, the European Masters will take place in the grand surroundings of the Clontarf Hotel.

The event is in its fourth year and is a well attended, yet often overlooked event. Indeed, last year the €1,100 main event attracted 303 players, with the majority of them being from mainland Europe thanks to the plethora of online satellites available.

For the keen grinder the event certainly offers a great opportunity to bag a healthy sum of money in a relatively soft setting.

This year’s festival kicks off tomorrow with the main event starting on November 16th and concluding on the 18th.

Jake Cody Parts with PKR

Last year Jake Cody capitalised on his new found poker fame and signed a high profile sponsorship deal with 3D poker site, PKR.

The deal was Cody’s first major affiliation with an online room, but just 12 months on the deal has now come to an end. Neither PKR nor Jake have chosen to shout about the split, but in a statement given to PokerNews UK, PKR’s media manager Dan Grant, said:

PKR’s one year association with Jake Cody has now come to its conclusion. We are proud to have worked with Jake over the last year and wish him the best of luck for the future.”

Jake is now left without a sponsor but given the fact he’s ranked 18th on the UK’s GPI list and has over $3 million in earnings, we don’t think it will be too long before someone snaps him up.
