WPT LAPC: FInal Table Set at Commerce

FPM logoThis is it, the final table is set and we are moments away from starting to determine who will be the next L.A. Poker Classic winner, joining the WPT Champions Club.

If you read the headlines, this seems like the Paul Volpe (GPI#166) vs. Toby Lewis (GPI#38) but if Lewis wants to on U.S. soil, he’s got a lot of work ahead of him.

The former EPT champ, who won Vilamoura in Portugal back in 2010, will begin the day last in chips and will need to get to work early in order to challenge for the second leg of his Triple Crown.  The 23-year-old Londoner already has a score in 2013.  He finished 17th in the 1K kickoff event to the Aussie Millions in January.  Eventual winner Rupert Elder, Martin Finger, Brendon Rubie and Joe Hachem (who cashed here at the LAPC) all finished ahead of Lewis in the event.

For Volpe, the situation is totally reversed.  When Doyle Brunson took to Twitter earlier this week stating that he did not recognize any of the 18 remaining players (except for WSOP October Niner Jeremy Ausmus) it confirmed that Texas Dolly doesn’t follow the online game.  Volpe, better known as paulgees81 to many, has had a remarkable career on the virtual felt.  He already owns over 60 wins online, good for over 4M USD in winnings.

Volpe surely became a household name (to those that didn’t know him already) last May when he earned nine scores at the 2012 PokerStars SCOOP series, including four Top 10 finishes.

One man who had high hopes for Volpe was defending EPT Grand Champion – and Fantasy Poker Manager player – Mohsin Charania, who after losing all of his horses early at the LAPC, still had his sights set on a long run from Volpe … little did he know that paulgees81 would do him proud and lead the final table at the Commerce.

Volpe enters the final table with the chip lead and has to be the odds-on favourite to win it all tonight!

Canadian Paul Klann – who earned a Top 10 finish at an event on the Heartland Poker Tour last season, Daniel Fuhs – who has tons of WSOP cashes in the past few years, David Fong – who has a few tournament cashes in California and popular player Jesse Yaginuma – who owns tons of cashes on the live tournament circuit – will join Volpe and Lewis at the final table.
