WPT Strong with Borgata, Seiver and Dibella Win at PCA

WPT Expands Contract with Borgata

The World Poker Tour has been holding tournaments at Borgata for 10 seasons. For this 11th season, the WPT heads to Borgata for its Winter Poker Open Championship. The series begins on January 15 with 25 events, and the Main Event is scheduled for January 27 to February 1.

The previous stop at Borgata for the WPT was in September near the beginning of Season 11. There were 1,181 entries in the $3,500 reentry tournament and a $3,897,300 prize pool. Ben Hamnett won the title and $818,847.

Scott Seiver wins PCA Super High Roller

The first event of the 2013 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure was the $100K buy-in Super High Roller. There were 47 players, 10 of whom reentered after being eliminated, and the 57 total entries created a prize pool set to pay the top eight players.

Action kicked off on January 5 and thinned the field slightly on the first day. Day 2 left sent more players to the rail, the last of whom missed the money and included Vanessa Selbst, Jason Mercier, and Antonio Esfandiari.

The final eight were all guaranteed payouts but playing for the $2 million first place prize and title. David Sands led the table by quite a few chips. Dan Shak was the first to go on Day 3, followed by Vladimir Troyanovsky, Greg Jensen, Philipp Gruissem, and Cary Katz. The third place elimination of Nick Schulman led to nearly an hour of heads-up action between Scott Seiver and David Sands, but Seiver emerged victorious. The final table payouts were as follows:

1st place: Scott Seiver ($2,003,480)

2nd place: David “Doc” Sands ($1,259,320)

3rd place: Nick Schulman ($744,140)

4th place: Cary Katz ($543,800)

5th place: Philipp Gruissem ($400,700)

6th place: Greg Jensen ($286,200)

7th place: Vladimir Troyanovsky ($257,580)

8th place: Dan Shak ($228,960)

2012 PCA Champ Wins First Side Event

The 2012 PCA champion, John Dibella, went to the Bahamas in the hopes of a repeat Main Event victory, and he started well. He won the first side event, a $2,150 NLHE turbo tournament. Out of the 109 players, Dibella won the title and $69,780.
