WPT UK Announced, Mizzi to Swim with Sharks

The World Poker Tour Announces its UK Festival

Nottingham’s famous Dusk Till Dawn card club will once again be the centre of attention on the European poker scene when it welcomes the World Poker Tour in November.

Run in conjunction with PartyPoker, the festival will not only feature a £500 WPT National event but a WPT Main Event with a prizepool of at least £1 million.

Being the first WPT Main Event back in the UK for a while means many of world’s top players will likely descend on Europe’s largest poker venue for the  £3,000 Main Event; something which has prompted the organisers to hire a marquee that will have space to accommodate up to 50 extra tables.

In total WPT UK 2014 will offer up at least £2 million in guaranteed prize money and anyone who can find their way into the top 50 finishing places in the WPT National event will win a free seat into the Main Event.

While the dates for the UK festival are yet to be confirmed, DTD owner Rob Yong has stated that the action will get underway in November.

Mizzi Lands Himself in Deep Water

We all know poker players love prop bets but this weekend Sorel Mizzi potentially bit off more than he can chew when he accepted a swimming bet.

The Canadian pro is currently grinding SCOOP tournaments in Brazil and decided to bet $10,000 at 3:1 odds that he could swim from Ipanema Beach to an island in the distance.

Seemingly unconcerned about the 5km route, choppy waters and an array of other unknown obstacles lurking underneath the surface, Mizzi gladly published the details of the bet on Twitter.

However, since long distance sea swims are notoriously dangerous, many of his friends pleaded with him to either buy out of the bet or implement some safety measures.

Seemingly unphased by their fears, Mizzi tweeted last night that he is willing to risk a further $10,000 at 3:1 that he navigate complete the bet later this week.
