WSOP Moves APAC to October ’14, to Rotate With WSOPE

A bombshell from the WSOP as APAC moves to October 2014 and WSOPE takes a year off…

CHANGES TO INTERNATIONAL SCHEDULE

Daniel Negreanu GPIThe World Series of Poker have announced major changes to its international schedule. Starting in 2014, WSOP Asia-Pacific and WSOP Europe will be presented bi-annually. The change means that WSOP Europe will not be presented in 2014 but is scheduled to return in 2015.

WSOP APAC is set to take place in 2014 but will move to the spring season in Melbourne as 10 bracelet events will be presented at the Crown Casino between October 1st and 17th, 2014. The first edition of the WSOP Asia-Pacific was held last April as Daniel Negreanu was the first player to win the APAC Main Event. WSOP APAC would then make way to WSOP Europe in 2015.

WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart: “We are excited to return to Melbourne in 2014 for WSOP APAC and the beginning of a new era for our international championships. The WSOP standard is bigger, better and different. Moving to a rotational approach, with one international event per year allows for better organization and more marketing in each region. We also want to do right by the players, and provide more value for their travel dollar. There is a glut of poker tournaments around the world, and our vision is to each year put on a single global showcase that can’t be missed”

Just like last year’s event, the 2014 edition of the WSOP Asia-Pacific Main Event will be filmed and broadcast worldwide.
