BREAKING: GPI Projects Schemion to Take Over PoY

It sure looked as if Daniel Negreanu had all but locked up Global Poker Index Player of the Year status for the 2013 season, but Ole Schemion had other plans in mind …

YOUNG PHENOM

Ole Schemion GPI21-year-old Ole Schemion (GPI#4) is about to complete a season for the ages. Needing to finish 17th or better at EPT Prague, Schemion has reached the final table of 8 players and will now only add to his points totals for 2013 as the Global Poker Index projects Schemion will overtake Daniel Negreanu (GPI#1) at the top of the GPI Player of the Year leaderboard.

Not even old enough to play in the biggest tournaments in the United States of America until recently, Schemion’s exploits are made more amazing by the fact that he was the only player in the race that was unable to participate in the 60+ events presented at the World Series of Poker this past summer in Las Vegas.

HOW WE GOT HERE

Ole Schemion GPISchemion’s 2013 cashes have been collected in the Bahamas, Melbourne, London, Cyprus, Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Amsterdam and this week in Prague. A total of 18 cashes in 2013 for the young German:

The season included a win on the Lebanese Poker Tour in April followed by three victories at the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo, matching 2012 GPI PoY’s feat of collecting a trio of victories in Monaco.

Here is a look at all of Schemion’s results from 2013:

2012 GPI EUROPEAN ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

GPI European Poker AwardsSchemion’s breakout season came in 2012 where he collected twelve cashes including a victory at the final edition of the Partouche Poker Tour Grand Final in Cannes and the Master Classics of Poker in Amsterdam, collecting over 2M USD in his rookie season on the circuit.

Those performances earned Schemion the title of Rookie of the Year at the 2012 GPI European Poker Awards presented in Paris.

His 2013 season only proves that Schemion is no longer to be considered a rising star but an established one on tour.

IS IT OVER?

Although there is still a mathematical chance for Schemion to be surpassed in the race, his two biggest threats, Negreanu and Michael Watson both look to be done for the season:

Sure looks like the Year of the Germans will culminate with their youngest prize fighter taking down the GPI PoY Crown … stay tuned!
