GPI300: Seiver, Kaverman Surge Into Top 10

More action atop the GPI Top 10 this week as Scott Seiver and Jonathan make a return while Byron Kaverman debuts at #7.

Ole Schemion GPIMake it two weeks in a row atop the GPI300 for Ole Schemion (GPI#1, -). Schemion’s points total now reads a ridiculous 4,017.13 following his 7th place finish in the EPT Grand Final Super High Roller event. He becomes only the second player to have hit the 4k point mark on the GPI300. Daniel Negreanu’s (GPI#14, -2) points total was up to 4,093.60 when he returned to the top spot on the GPI in February.

Vanessa Selbst (GPI#2, -) remains at #2 this week. Selbst has been unable to add points to her totals since her three-event run at the PCA to start the season. Despite her inability to add more points, she has held the #2 spot in the standings for the past four weeks.

Scott Seiver GPITalk about making a bold statement! World traveler Scott Seiver (GPI#3 CB, +28) went from finishing 21st at the WPT World Championship in Atlantic City to winning a side event at EPT Grand Final Monte Carlo in a matter of days. Seiver, who was named GPI Player of the Month in February, moves to a career-best #3 on the GPI300 this week.

WPT World Championship runner-up Byron Kaverman (GPI#7 CB, +13) also made a big jump, moving into the GPI Top 10 for the very first time of his career. 2010 WSOP World Champion Jonathan Duhamel (GPI#9, +5) moves back into the Top 10 while Paul Volpe (GPI#11, -2), Shannon Shorr (GPI#13, -3) and Mukul Pahuja (GPI#15, -8) all drop from the top this week.

SWIMMING UPSTREAM

Ryan D'Angelo GPIComing off his final table performance at the WPT World Championship, Ryan D’Angelo (GPI#125 CB, +162) makes the biggest move inside the GPI300 this week. D’Angelo’s fine performance in the final two months during Season XII of the WPT – which included three cashes and two Top 10 finishes – see him move up to a career-best #125 in the World.

WPT Season XII Ones to Watch Jeff Gross (GPI#143, +109) and Athanasios Polychronopoulos (GPI#135, +64), EPT and WPT Champion Roberto Romanello (GPI#193, +82) and 2013 WSOP bracelet winner Loni Harwood (GPI#144 CB, +65) are also trending upward this week.

DOWN THE LADDER

Tom Alner GPIUK pro Tom Alner (GPI#260, -77) takes the biggest hit of all the GPI300 members this week. Alner, who recently cashed at EPT Sanremo, enjoyed a great second part to his 2013 poet season on the live tournament circuit. He has also earned over 1M USD in MTT tournaments online according to our friends at PocketFives.

After spending most of 2014 inside the Top 100, Dutch star Paul Berende (GPI#126, -41) drops outside the Top 125 this week. Bracelet winner Naoya Kihara (GPI#234, -50), Jae Kyung Sim (GPI#228, -40) and Vasili Firsau (GPI#170, -36) are three other names who Alner and Berende on the way down this week.

IN-N-OUT

Anthony Gregg GPIDefending One Drop High Roller Champion Anthony Gregg (GPI#172) makes a triumphant return to the GPI300 this week. Gregg, who bubbled the final table at the WPT World Championship last Friday, re-enters the 300 for the fist time since February. Gregg spent the second half of 2013 inside the GPI300, he will be hoping to do the same this year.

Vladimir Troyanovskiy (GPI#239), Anatoly Filatov (GPI#245), Kevin Saul (GPI#269) and Joey Weissman (GPI#297) join Gregg inside the 300 this week.

John Dibella GPI2012 PCA Main Event Champion John Dibella (GPI#302) finds himself on the outside looking in this week. Dibella’s 20th place finish at the WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open in January wasn’t enough to keep him in the 300 this week, he drops to #302.

David Diaz (GPI#303), who is rumoured to be making a return to the WSOP in Las Vegas this year, Santiago Nadal (GPI#306), who is ranked #2 in Mexico, and 2013 bracelet winner Trevor Pope (GPI#317) all drop out of the 300 this week.

ON THE BUBBLE

Isaac Haxton GPIOur bubble player from last week, Isaac Haxton (GPI#300) was able to find his way back into the GPI300 this week, squeaking in at #300.

This week, former Borgata Winter Poker Open Champion Andy Hwang (GPI#301) finds himself on the hot seat, one step away from returning the GPI300. Hwang will certainly get every opportunity to return to the elite group as the 45th World Series of Poker is less than a month away!
