Jelassi, Rettenmaier, Adams and Luske All Enjoy a Winning Weekend

Jelassi and Rettenmaier Score EPT Wins

He’s known as one of the EPT’s serial cashiers without an outright win, but all that changed on Sunday when Ramzi Jelassi claimed his first title.

Despite making the money but crashing out soon after in 10 previous EPT’s, Jelassi didn’t let that fact affect his performance during yesterday’s Prague finale.

Having made his way past 863 runners in the Czech Capital, the Swedish pro took control of the tournament towards the conclusion of the final table.

A series of tense negotiations with just three players left resulted in Jelassi and Sotirios Koutoupas rejecting an unfavourable deal  from David Boyaciyan.

Following the unsuccessful attempt to guarantee himself more money, Boyaciyan proceeded to hit the rail in third place leaving just two players in line for the title.

With the greater EPT pedigree behind him there were few who were prepared to bet against Jelassi. Indeed, once the heads-up battle wore on it was Jelassi who gradually got the upper hand.

After three hours the event finally came to a close as Jelassi claimed the €825,000 first place prize.

Also enjoying a victory in Prague over the weekend was Marvin Rettenmaier. The high ranking GPI player took down the EPT High Roller event for €363,300 after defeating Fabian Quossheads-up.

Adams Triumphs in Prague’s GSOP

Yesterday’s tournament action not only saw the winner of EPT Prague crowned, but the GSOP as well.

Running at the same time as PokerStars’ European Poker Tour, the GSOP Prague attracted a record breaking 590 players for its €1,500 main event.

A host of famous faces were in action during the course of the tournament; however, when the final chips had fallen it was England’s Matt Adams who stood victorious.

The tournament grinder overcame Tapio Vihakas to bank €106,200, which is his largest poker win to date.

Vihakas had lead the way for much of the tournament but after a back-and-forth heads-up battle he eventually hit the rail after his [Js] [5h] lost to Adams’ [Ah] [Jd].

Luske’s Online Victory

We don’t usually focus on the online tournament scene, but when one of the game’s most entertaining players scores a victory it’s worth reporting on.

Having anted-up with 3,667 other players at the start of yesterday’s PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up, Marcel Luske managed to log off victorious after a four-way deal.

Although he’s won more money in live tournaments across the world, Marcel’s win was one of his most memorable online.

Indeed, not only did he bank $75,039, but he managed to overcome the likes of online whizz kid, Mickey Petersen who finished in 6th place for $23,842.
